Golden Gate Park Disc Golf Course
Published On November 15, 2017
Disc Golf is a popular alternative sport in which players throw a disc, not much different from a Frisbee, at targets on a course of 9 or 18 holes in a similar format to golf. Invented in the early 1900s, Disc Golf quickly lost its pizzazz until it was rediscovered again in the 1960s. Average course holes are around 200-240 feet and have many obstructions and challenges that test the ability levels of players. Similar to golf, Disc Golf has a tee box and appropriate signage that map out the distance to the hole, par, and hole characteristics. Holes are typically tone targets or baskets where the disc must land in order to count the hole as completed. Discs come in a variety of designs with different characteristics to provide longer flight, accuracy, and/or spin. Players can use a variety of different grips and styles in throwing a disc. Scoring is very similar to golf with stroke play scoring as the norm. Tournaments are commonplace and the sport of Disc Golf is growing in popularity.
